We never intended to wait 54 miles to eat but with literally no options along the country roads that we were riding on it happened. As we hit the 53 mile mark we were set to turn left and then there off in the distance to our right we saw those beautiful golden yellow arches... And for Homer-Gunthers you know that's a big deal. We took off to the right in the wrong direction to feed our mind, bodies and souls at McDonald's.
It only took us a mile out of the way and we feasted on Mcdoubles, Spicy McChickens, Small Fries, and LARGE Diet Cokes and it was glorious. The stop was right off a major highway and we got quite a few stares in our bike getups and even a few people came over to talk to us. One guy in particular who seemed to have done just a few too many drugs in his life came over to see what we were up to and after we told him he said, "Hey maybe I will see you in San Diego..." We were a little freaked out that he was somehow going to be stalking us along the trip but then he explained that he was hitchhiking to Kentucky to pick up his truck and then was driving out to San Diego himself. Ahhh that makes perfect sense....
After lunch we road the remainder of our miles for the day and ended at a Camp Ground in a county park. Today's miles totaled 78. For $5 dollars we got hot showers and a pavilion and table and outlets for our devises. We used the MSR Pocket Rocket stove for the first time and ate two dry-pack meals (Santa Fe Chicken and Rice and Chili Rice and Beans). We got a pretty decent fire going and have been relaxing and enjoying the nice weather that we had today and hoping that tomorrow's storms will hold off for us to get in some miles early.
The fire is going down, we are out of wood, have no beers, so this is it. Until tomorrow...
