March 13th, 2013: Day One
Well, the journey is now officially underway. We (myself, mom and dad) left Sauquoit, NY on Tuesday at about 12 noon in order to beat Winter Storm Vulcan that was going to hit Upstate New York on Wednesday morning. We drove until about 9:00 p.m. and ended the night at a Howard Johnson in Salem, VA with a few Vienna Lagers and some Pizza Hut pizza.
Wednesday morning we woke up early at about 6:15 a.m. and after a little continental breakfast got back on the road and drove all day and rolled into St. Augustine, FL at 6:00 p.m. and checked in to our hotel....
And then we ended the night with dinner at the Conch House Marina Resort where we dined on some delicious Crab Cakes, Shrimp, Tasso and Gouda Cheese Grits and Blackened Shrimp Pasta.
This morning started stage 1 of my bike trip which my Pops will be joining me for. (St. Augustine, FL to Gulf Shores, AL). Today we did our first ride as a sort of warm-up to ensure that the bikes were running smoothly after the 1150 mile ride on the back of the car as we drove down the coast. The bike ride was a relatively easy 30 mile ride from St. Augustine to Hastings, FL that we completed in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Below are some of the pictures from this morning and from our "Official Tire Dipping" into the Atlantic Ocean and our dinner spot tonight.... Tomorrow we'll be getting up early and doing a 66 mile ride to Gainesville, FL. LET'S GO GATORS!!!!!!!!!! More to come as we move along.... Loving the support from everyone.
